Bucharest – Romanian cinema will be present, starting on Wednesday and running until 6 May, at the 21st edition of the South-East European Film Festival in Los Angeles (SEEfest), one of the most important events in the United States dedicated to film productions from this region.

This year’s edition gives special attention to Romanian film, through a curated selection that reflects the diversity, originality and international relevance of recent productions, the Romanian Cultural Institute New York informed on Tuesday in a press release sent to AGERPRES.

The festival will officially open with the Romanian film “Catane” (2025), directed by Ioana Mischie, screened in the presence of the director, with the Romanian presence continuing with “Comatogen” (2024), directed by Igor Cobileanski.

The programme is completed by a diverse selection of short films and documentaries, with American audiences having the opportunity to watch the productions “The Road Home” (2025), directed by Marian Farcut, “Electing Ms Santa” (2025), directed by Raisa Razmerita, and “Hollowgram,” by Laura Iancu (Romania/United States).

A co-organiser and co-financier of most Romanian film festivals in North America and of Romanian participation in North American festivals, the Romanian Cultural Institute, through its New York branch, is one of the main promoters of Romanian cinema in the United States and Canada. This year, the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York supports the participation at SEEfest of director Ioana Mischie and actress Daniela Nane.
