Romania rolls out European minimum wage

Bucharest, Feb 6 /Agerpres/ – At a Thursday’s meeting, the Romanian government approved the procedure for applying the mechanism for establishing and updating the minimum pretax basic salary in the country completing the process of transposing Directive (EU) 2022/2041, which aims to ensure an adequate minimum wage for all workers.

According to the Ministry of Labour Family, Youth and Social Solidarity, this approach is also the achievement of milestone number 392 related to the payment request number 5 of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

‘The decision approved by the government today is a commitment to improving the working and living conditions of Romanian workers. The measure provides predictability to employers and security to employees and contributes to increasing the standard of living by ensuring a fair remuneration system. Today’s decision is all the more important as the minimum wage reform represents another milestone reached within the PNRR – Milestone 392,’ according to Labour Minister Simona Bucura Oprescu.

The guaranteed minimum gross wage will be established against clear indicators, namely: purchasing power, taking into account the cost of living; the general level of salaries; the growth rate of wages; labour productivity nationwide.
