The National Institute for Earth Physics and the National Institute for Research and Development GeoEcoMar, both operating under the coordination of the National Authority for Research, are partners in the EPOS-RO project, an initiative supporting the integration of Romania’s geophysical infrastructures into the European research area.
Co-financed by the European Union through the Smart Growth, Digitalisation and Financial Instruments Programme 2021-2027, the project aims to develop a modern and interoperable national infrastructure for monitoring and analysing geophysical processes, while also supporting activities related to natural risk management.
The European Plate Observing System (EPOS) is the European infrastructure dedicated to Earth sciences, connecting research data, services and technologies designed for the study of geological and geophysical phenomena.
“Through this network, scientific communities and public institutions benefit from integrated access to essential resources for research, innovation and the substantiation of policies concerning societal resilience and safety. EPOS operates on the basis of the principles of open access, interoperability and the responsible use of scientific data. The implementation of the EPOS-RO project over a three-year period will contribute to increasing research and innovation capacity in the field of Earth sciences through the integration of data, services and advanced research technologies, as well as strengthening Romania’s connection to the major European infrastructures dedicated to this field,” representatives of the National Authority for Research underlined.
