President Sergio Mattarella on Thursday drew attention to the high civilian death tolls of the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine in his message for the Italian National Day for Civilian Victims of Wars and Conflicts.
“We are witnessing a steady increase in civilian casualties in war-torn areas,” the message read.
“From the conflicts in the Middle East to the war in Ukraine, the death toll is rising alarmingly.
“These are unacceptable deeds, which offend the humanitarian values and solidarity that cooperation between peoples and nations is based on and violate the principles of International Humanitarian Law for armed conflicts”.
