Serbia is interested in keeping the situation tense in Kosovo, but it is not in the interest of our country for destabilizing elements to move freely within its territory.
This was stated for KosovaPress by Mentor Vrajolli, the Executive Director of the Kosovo Center for Security Studies (QKSS), following arrests that took place this past weekend, involving individuals posing as Serbian pilgrims in Gjakova and Prizren.
Vrajolli also emphasized that “the potential for Serbia to use these destabilizing elements in Kosovo has been and remains.”
He called on Kosovo’s institutions to increase vigilance against any movements from the Serbian state.
However, the executive director of QKSS, Mentor Vrajolli, considers that with the rigorous control of the Kosovo-Serbia border by both the Kosovo Police and KFOR and NATO, the chances of a general escalation of the conflict are low.
At the Security Council meeting, according to the Office of the Prime Minister, Serbia “is intervening with some deputies from non-Serb minority communities to sabotage the establishment of the new legislature institutions.”
According to Vrajolli, in this regard, the formation of new institutions is in the hands of the political parties in the country. However, he adds that minorities must also unite to find a solution for the formation of the new government.
16 individuals, divided into four vehicles with Kragujevac, Serbia license plates, were arrested on Saturday and Sunday in Gjakova and Prizren. This was reported by the acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, who said that four of them were active officers of the Serbian security services, according to KosovaPress.
According to Sveçla, one of the arrested individuals is related to the main suspect for the murder of the Kosovo Police officer, Afrim Bunjaku.
At the request of the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, a Security Council meeting was held yesterday.
The Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Gjakova has requested a 30-day detention measure for four suspects with the initials B.R., N.V., P.K., M.S., of Serbian nationality, who are suspected of the criminal offense of illegal weapons possession.
Currently, a session is being held at the Basic Court in Gjakova for the determination of the security measure.
