Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeljoshaj, the price capping campaign has contributed to the stabilization and reduction of prices for basic foodstuffs, as well as to the overall low inflation rate in Montenegro.
He reminded that the annual inflation rate had dropped to 1.2 percent last October.
“According to Monstat, the monthly inflation rate for October is 0 percent, meaning that prices did not change compared to September,” Gjeljoshaj said.
He noted a decrease in prices for the “food and non-alcoholic beverages” category by -0.1 percent, indicating that inflation for these products was negative.
“It is therefore clear that the price-capping campaign launched by the 44th Government of Montenegro, without jeopardizing the continuity of market supply, has contributed to the stabilization and reduction of prices of basic foodstuffs, as well as to the overall low inflation rate in Montenegro,” Gjeljoshaj stated.
He added that the Ministry of Economic Development would continue to monitor the prices of basic food items according to the established methodology and, based on that, propose measures to protect citizens’ living standards.
