President and Donald Trump discuss strengthening of bilateral cooperation

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides held a telephone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday, during which they expressed common intention to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Cyprus and the US.

A written statement by Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis says that during their conversation, President Christodoulides congratulated  Trump on his election  and underlined the intention to work closely together to further strengthen the ties between the two countries.

The Spokesman says that special reference was also made to the broad cooperation between the two countries and the high level that they have reached recently in areas such as defense and security, investment, the economy, as well as in the provision of humanitarian aid and crisis management in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

They also expressed the common intention that within the framework of the strategic relationship and the Strategic Dialogue between Cyprus and the United States, bilateral cooperation in a number of areas should be expanded and strengthened, both to the benefit of the two countries and the region in general.

They also discussed the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region and President Christodoulides stressed that Cyprus remains a close and reliable partner of the United States in efforts to promote peace, stability and development in the region.

Meanwhile, on a post on ‘X’, President Christodoulides wrote that he had an excellent discussion with Trump. “I congratulated him on his election victory & we expressed our shared commitment to continue enhancing CY-US strategic partnership. We will work together to further reinforce our relations for the benefit of our countries & the region” he concluded.
