Montenegro is a front-runner in the European integration and has strong Portugal’s support to become the next EU member state, said Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa, who visited Montenegro on Monday, within his tour of the region.
He met on Monday with his Montenegrin counterpart Milojko Spajic, discussing strengthening of the bilateral cooperation and European integration of Montenegro.
According to the press release from Spajic’s office, Costa said that Portugal wants to improve cooperation with Montenegro at all levels.
“He reiterated strong support of Portugal to the European integration of Montenegro and underscored that the progress in the integration process should be merit based on the achievements of the candidate countries in the reform processes”, Costa said, adding that clear European perspective is ahead of Montenegro.
Spajic, according to the press statement, introduced Costa with the government’s program and emphasized that conditions have been met for the reform processes that will contribute to speeding up the integration process.
