Poland’s Glam Quartet, Stan Breckenridge to perform in Ohrid

Ohrid, 19 August 2026 (MIA) — Ohrid Summer festival will present Wednesday a “Polish Evening” concert by Poland’s Glam Quartet accompanied by Stan Breckenridge on piano. They will perform music from their 2025 album, “Reimagined Chopin,” at St. Sophia Church at 9 pm.
The concert program features piano pieces by Polish composer Frédéric Chopin (Nocturne in E-Flat Major, Prelude in C Minor, Andante spianato and Fantaisie-Impromptu) in bossa nova, swing and waltz arrangements by Breckenridge. Also on the program are original songs by Breckenridge: “Јoy in My Life,” “Rosół,” “The Music in Me” and “Waterfall.”
The concert will end with Bob Thiele and George David’s “What a Wonderful World,” Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller’s “Stand by Me” and Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”
Stan Breckenridge is an American jazz pianist, musicologist and winner of the Amicus Poloniae award granted by the Polish Ambassador to the USA. His musical style blends jazz, blues and pop standards with classical European influences.
He has authored three books: “Music Taste or Waste: Critical Listening Skills for Students, Teachers and Parents” (2018), “Popular Music in America: Forging the American Spirit” (2016) and “African American Music for Everyone: Including Theater, Film and Dance” (2014). He has performed and lectured in places such as Dubai, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Lithuania, Mexico, Morocco, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and throughout the United States.
Glam Quartet is an all-female Polish string ensemble formed by graduates of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. Made up of violinist Barbara Basia Szelagiewicz, violinist Dominika Piechowiak Dolzynska, violist Karolina Waścińska Łukanowska and cellist Agnieszka Kova Kowalczyk, the group bridges classical, jazz and pop genres.
Individually, in chamber music formations or as part of larger orchestras, they regularly collaborate with esteemed Polish and international artists at different events including festivals, television productions, sporting events as well as on numerous recordings. Each week, the quartet performs on the Polish TV4 show “Gwiazdy Kabaretu” (“Cabaret Stars”). mr/
