ZAGREB, 17 Feb (Hina) – Preliminary data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) show that in 2025 the number of pigs in Croatia increased, while the numbers of cattle, sheep, goats, and poultry fell.
The pig population rose 0.5% compared to 2024, reaching 877,000. However, the number of breeding sows declined 13% to 80,000, while the number of fattening pigs weighing over 50 kg (including culled ones) increased 1.5% to 395,000.
Cattle numbers dropped 0.9% to 418,000. Cattle older than two years fell 1.3% to 156,000, while the number of dairy cows remained unchanged at 71,000. The number of calves under one year decreased 1.3% to 148,000, and the number of cattle aged one to two years stayed at 114,000.
The number of sheep declined 5.8% to 521,000, the number of goats fell 2.9% to 66,000, and poultry dropped 4.8% to 10.76 million as of 1 November 2025 compared with the previous year.
