ZAGREB, 9 July (Hina) – Croats have an average of 25 days of annual leave, and one in three will spend two to three weeks on holiday, mostly at domestic destinations, spending an average of € 1,330, according to a survey by the job portal MojPosao.
The most popular time for taking annual leave is during the summer months, with 79% of respondents planning a summer holiday.
Psychologists also recommend a break of two to three weeks as the optimal duration for rest.
More than three weeks away is planned by 12% of those surveyed.
As for the destination, 71% of people plan to holiday within Croatia, while 20% plan to travel abroad. Nine percent will split their holiday time between domestic and international destinations.
Among those not planning a summer holiday, the main reasons cited include not having leave during the summer, living by the sea (so feeling no need to travel), or, most commonly, financial constraints.
Despite media headlines suggesting Croatia has become an expensive destination for locals, the survey indicates that those travelling abroad plan to spend more, an average of € 1,898. Those staying in Croatia expect to spend around € 1,330.
However, these pricier trips tend to be shorter. Foreign holidays typically last up to seven days, whereas domestic trips are less frequently that brief.
The survey included over 600 respondents, 90% of whom were women. The majority were aged between 41 and 50 (53%), followed by those aged 31 to 40 (41%).
