Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Since the beginning of May through 23 July, tax inspectors have conducted 1,820 inspections across Montenegro, identified irregularities involving 286 taxpayers, and issued 424 misdemeanour orders, with total fines amounting to €1.45 million.

According to the Tax Administration (PU), 156 offenders accepted responsibility under the Law on Misdemeanours and exercised their legal right to settle their obligation by paying half of the imposed fine. A total of €371,700 has been collected on that basis.

Due to serious violations, 28 taxpayers were ordered to temporarily suspend their business activities, one of the strictest enforcement measures provided for under current legislation.

“The Tax Administration’s inspection activities are based on risk analysis. As a result, inspections are primarily focused on taxpayers who were found to have committed irregularities in the past, as well as those suspected of failing to record turnover or issue fiscal receipts to customers,” the tax authority said in a press release.

The Tax Administration announced that intensive inspections will continue in the coming period, with a particular focus on businesses experiencing higher turnover during the tourist season.
