The Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics (INPP), at National Centre for Scientific Research (NCSR) Demokritos, announced the detection of the highest energy cosmic neutrino ever recorded, about 220 PeV, by the KM3NeT experiment, https://www.km3net.org.
The remarkable event, named KM3-230213A, according to a release, was detected on February 13, 2023 by ARCA’s one-cubic-kilometer neutrino telescope KM3NeT, which is embedded in the deep sea. This is the most high-energy neutrino ever detected and provides the first evidence that such high-energy neutrinos are produced in the universe. This event was published in the journal Nature today, Thursday, February 13, 2025.
The INPP Astroparticle Physics team is actively involved in KM3NeT playing a key role in the construction, operation, data analysis and management of the experiment.
