Skopje, 25 April 2025 (MIA) — The National Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Dzhijan Emin, will give a concert Friday featuring French trumpet player Pierre Millet and vocalist Betty Jardin’s own compositions “exploring diverse emotional landscapes and human connections through music and poetry,” according to organizers.
Millet and Jardin’s collaboration also explores “a wide range of feelings, from nostalgia and escapism to hope, endurance and introspection,” organizers said.
“Through poetic lyrics and music compositions, these two artists explore the beauty of dreams, the passage of time, the innocence of childhood and one’s struggle against selfishness and fear.
“Each of their works reveals a deep connection to cultural, personal and universal moments, weaving daydreams into honest reflections while celebrating the entirety of human nature in all its beauty and contradictions,” organizers said.
Born in the mid-1970s, Pierre Millet has established himself as both an inspired instrumentalist and a prolific composer. In addition to performing jazz, he has performed and collaborated in a wide range of genres, from rock to circus music to chansons.
He has performed in numerous ensembles, including AB Sextet, Les Elles, and more recently in the Surnatural Orchestra or alongside pianist Faraj Suleiman. He is also the leader or co-leader and principal composer of several ensembles, from trios (Ana Kap) to brass bands (Chromatic Museum), quartets (Blast) and quintets (Renza Bô, Décor-um).
Betty Jardin is a Normandy-based French vocalist. She studied jazz theory at the Conservatoire de Caen and Indian music in South India, where she lived for more than a decade.
She is part of the big band Jazz à Montpellier as well as the ensembles Ana Kap and Breath & Breath. She has been critically acclaimed for her “recognizable vocal sensibility and uniqueness.”
