National Assembly for Albanian language, Manastirliu: United to preserve linguistic heritage

TIRANA, November 21/ATA/ The National Assembly for the Albanian Language opened its proceedings today with a special ceremony at the Palace of Brigades in Tirana. This will be a two-day forum during which there will be discussed the challenges and opportunities of the Albanian language in the modern era.

Attending the event, there are representatives of educational institutions, prominent figures from education, linguistics, literature, scientific research and public communication, as well as young people, students and high school students.

Prime Minister Edi Rama was also present at the opening ceremony to deliver his message to the National Assembly for the Albanian Language.

On her part, Education Minister Ogerta Manastirliu focused on the significance of the Albanian language as the main pillar of our national identity and history. Hence, we should be united to preserve linguistic heritage, she said.

“The declaration of November 22, (the day of the Congress of Manastir where there was approved the alphabet of the Albanian language) as a public holiday as well as 2024, the Year of the Albanian Language, clearly reflects the significance we have attached to the issue of preservation, promotion and development of our national language. The rapid technological developments, mass movements of peoples, confrontation with other cultures require a good and in-depth preparation, especially in language”, said Manastirliu.

Minister Manastirliu said that within the framework of the Year of the Albanian Language, the Ministry of Education is committed to the modernization of the education system, starting with the update of the Curriculum Framework.

Also, the Albanian government is providing support for the Diaspora.

The funding of the “Teachers for Greece” Program provides support for the teachers who teach Albanian in the diaspora, said the minister.
