National and Kapodistrian University of Athens among top universities in QS World University Rankings
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) is ranked among the top 100 universities in four fields and in high positions in a total of 24 scientific fields, in the international QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) university ranking list.
This ranking evaluates universities in five basic thematic areas of study and research, as determined by the QS methodology, (Arts and Humanities, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Management, Engineering and Technology) but also in 55 individual scientific fields-specialties.
The results of this year’s ranking (2026) quantitatively and qualitatively reflect the best performance for the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens at a five-year level, leading to a record of distinctions.
More specifically, for 2026, NKUA achieved very high performance in 24 scientific fields, compared to 14 in 2021 and 15 in 2023, recording a very large increase in the last three years.
In fact, the field of “Classical Studies and Ancient History” is ranked 34th worldwide, moving up from positions 51-100, where it was in the last two years, to the top 50. Three other individual scientific fields of study and research of the University of Athens are ranked in the top 100 (positions 51-100): Dentistry, Archaeology and Petroleum Engineering.
