Munich Security Conference: Trump gov’t praises Greece for Vertical Corridor, P-TEC energy agreements
Greece, the energy agreements signed in the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) meeting in Athens, and the importance of the Vertical Corridor were among issues referred to by and Executive Director of the National Energy Dominance Council (NEDC) Jarrod Agen at the Munich Security Conference.
Agen, deputy assistant to US President Donald Trump, described energy as a tool to achieve peace in Ukraine, referring to the Vertical Corridor and the transport of natural gas through it as part of the American agenda of energy dominance.
The US official congratulated Greek Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, who was in the audience, for the implementation of LNG and the arrival of the imported gas. Referring to the Athens meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC), the NEDC chief said in Munich that American officials made two trips to Greece in 2025, and met with all energy ministers from East and Central Europe to discuss agreements on how to make natural gas transports from Greece to Ukraine and from Poland to Ukraine.
But the P-TEC conference at the end of the year was not enough, he stressed. A meeting on the Vertical Corridor would take place in Washington on February 24, with all ministers travelingo the US, for more agreements that would make the Vertical Corridor a reality, he said. In addition, the next meeting on the same issue would take place in Houston, at CERAWeek (March 23-27), for additional agreements.
Ukraine’s natural gas company Naftogaz Oleksiy Ryabchyn, former deputy and deputy energy minister of Ukraine and currently Naftogaz head of international relations, thanked speakers for substantial support to his country through the agreement with Greek consortium Aktor-DEPA. He said that Jarrod Agen and his partners helped so that Vertical Corridor price lists acquired a single structural cohesion, allowing the first agreement withe Greek counterparts, and that LNG tankers are also coming to help Ukrainians survive the winter.
