More passengers in road and air transport

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Compared to the same period last year, passenger transport in the second quarter, recorded growth in road and airport transport, and a decline in rail and local road transport.

According to Monstat, the number of passengers carried in road transport increased by 4.6 percent, and in air transport by 11 percent, while rail transport decreased by 5.8 percent and local road transport by 21.9 percent.

“Compared to the same period last year, freight transport recorded growth in rail transport and in total cargo traffic in ports of 30.8 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively in the second quarter, while road freight and air cargo transport recorded declines of 2 percent and 3 percent, respectively,” the press release states.

In the second quarter, the number of transhipped tons in ports decreased by 7.3 percent year on year, while the volume of manipulated cargo increased by 4.1 percent.

Official statistics show that there were 84,300 registered motor and trailer vehicles in the second quarter, which is 7.9 percent more compared to the same period last year.

“In the second quarter, the number of newly registered road motor and trailer vehicles was 9,980, five percent fewer compared to the same period last year,” the press release reads.
