Monstat: Total energy consumption reaches 12,1700 TJ

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Monstat, the total energy consumption in the household sector in Montenegro, expressed in terajoules (TJ), reached 12,170 TJ in 2024.

The largest share in terms of energy sources was recorded for firewood with 5,630 TJ, followed by electricity with 5,580 TJ, which indicates the equal importance of these energy sources for households.

“Wood pellets and briquettes participate with 743.5 TJ, while all other energy sources, including wood chips and wood residue, coal, charcoal, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), coal briquettes and extra light heating oil together form 1.8% of total household energy consumption,” Monstat stated in a press release.

The highest consumption by municipality was recorded in Podgorica with 2,630 TJ, followed by Niksic with 1,340 TJ and Bijelo Polje with 933.7 TJ.
On the other hand, the lowest consumption was recorded in Pluzine (60.3 TJ) and Savnik (44.7 TJ).

In terms of physical units, the household sector in Montenegro consumed a total of 1,550 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity last year, 613,230 cubic meters of firewood, and 44,130 tons of wood pellets and briquettes.
