Calabrian mobsters put bleach into the altar wine and water to be used by a local anti-mafia priest in a Mass at the weekend, sources said Monday.
Don Felice Battaglia, who has recently been subjected to threats and intimidation including seeing his car torched, was about to drink the wine and water at the Mass at Cessaniti near Vibo Valentia when he was put off by the strange smell they were emitting.
He called in the cops who found that bleach had been added to the liquids in order to poison the priest.
Cessaniti council was recently dissolved for infiltration by ‘Ndrangheta, the Calabrian outfit that is Italy’s strongest and richest mafia due to its control of the European cocaine trade.
