Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro will continue to build bridges and strengthen dialogue in line with the UN’s spirit and mission, said President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic during the session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
He recalled that the UN, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, was founded with the mission to achieve global peace.
Milatovic also pointed out that multilateralism today is facing unprecedented challenges.
“Our world is faced with devastating conflicts, growing polarization, serious violations of human rights, deep economic inequalities, as well as the devastating spread of misinformation”, Milatovic said.
He said that these challenges are a reminder that the UN must not be marginalized, nor the international law should be silenced.
Milatovic pointed out that commitment to the fundamental principles of the UN Charter must be renewed.
He said that Montenegro firmly believes that the UN must remain the cornerstone of peace, that international law must prevail over force, and that the order based on rules must never be questioned.
