Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday that she is looking to achieve the same level of support in June’s European elections as she obtained in the Italian 2022 general election that saw her voted into power.
Meloni’s right-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party won around 26% of the vote in the last general election, leading the centre-right coalition it is part of to victory.
“For me, a victory would be to confirm the (number of) votes that brought me to (the premier’s office) Palazzo Chigi a year and a half ago, which is not easy,” Meloni told Rai television.
“It is not often that a government can obtain that level of support after a year and a half a government”.
