Major transport strike disruption, trains cancelled in Rome

A transport strike by grass-roots unions caused major disruption in Italy Friday and many trains were cancelled in Rome.
    Several trains were cancelled and others posted delays of up to half an hour at Rome’s Termini station due to the transport strike in progress from 9 pm yesterday until 9 pm tonight.
    In Milan, however, subways stayed open even after 8.45 am.
    Some 32 ITA Airways flights were cancelled.

In Naples, where there were delays and cancellations of Campania regional trains.
    Metalworkers took to the streets in Genoa, Naples and Turin.
    In Bologna, over 7 thousand metalworking protesters invaded the ring road, blocking traffic, and may face criminal sanctions under new legislation.
