Bucharest, March 24 /Agerpres/ – The largest crane ever installed at the Port of Constanta, a massive piece of machinery with a 38-meter reach that allows the loading and unloading of Panamax ships, was successfully commissioned this March, having been installed by grains and oilseeds trader ADM Romania.

According to a company release, the new Sennebogen 885 hydraulic crane, weighing in total approximately 320 tons, and equipped with an electric engine producing 500 kW of power, has a handling capacity of up to 12-15 thousand tons per day and will highly benefit the productivity and efficiency at the ADM Romania terminal in the Port of Constanta.

‘The upgrade allows us to better serve our customers by increasing the efficiency of our extended supply chain across the Danube River silos, Danube barge fleet and port terminal in Constanta. This is another example of ADM’s long-term commitment to the Port of Constanta, Romania and the Danube Region as a whole, where we have built a significant presence over the past 20 years,’ said Anton Povkhan, ADM Danube Region General Manager, as cited in the release.

The new piece of heavy machinery will speed up the rate of loading and unloading vessels and barges.

‘It is the largest such equipment installed so far in the Port of Constanta and in Romania, to my knowledge. ADM Romania operates seven silos on the Romanian stretch of the Danube, located in Braila, Bordusani, Calarasi, Giurgiu, Corabia, Basarabi and Moldova Noua. Operations in Romania also include grain transhipment in the terminals in the Port of Constanta (Constanta North and Agigea), as well as a fleet of barges on the Danube.
