The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has today signed an agreement with the American Undersecretary of State, Elizabeth Allen, for understanding between the Government of the United States of America and the Republic of Kosovo, against the manipulation of information by foreign countries.

Osmani has said that the cyber attacks which are coming from Russia through its satellite, Serbia, are trying to exert influence by targeting the successes and achievements of the joint engagement of the people of Kosovo with the USA and other democratic states.

The head of state thanked Undersecretary Allen for her visit, which demonstrates the commitment to cooperation in order to fight common challenges.

“Undersecretary Allen’s visit symbolizes not only the steadfast partnership between Kosovo and the United States, but also proves our mutual commitment to cooperation in order to combat common challenges. I am extremely happy, that on behalf of the Republic of Kosovo, we signed an agreement together with Undersecretary Allen, in order to join forces against the manipulation of information by foreign countries, faced with unprecedented global challenges, disinformation campaigns, which pose a great threat to the stability and national security of Kosovo, but also to the Western Balkans as a whole. Unfortunately, not even Kosovo has been spared from these attacks, which come and intensify as a result of Russia’s influence in the region through its satellite, Serbia. This alone is not worrisome but represents an active risk, destabilization of our region. In this way, Russia is trying to exert influence by targeting the successes and achievements of the joint engagement of the people of Kosovo with democratic states, in particular with the USA. Therefore, we as a democracy must unite so that they do not achieve this success”, said Osmani.

Meanwhile, the American Undersecretary of State, Elizabeth Allen, has added that security and stability in Southern and Central Europe, especially in the Western Balkans, are the main priorities that she has underlined in every meeting she has had in the region.

Allen emphasized that the US is always committed to the people of Kosovo.

“The president and I had a productive conversation regarding disinformation, support for civil society. We also talked about the critical issues of Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic and European journey, we support Kosovo’s trajectory. Security and stability in Southern and Central Europe, especially in the Western Balkans, are the main priorities that I have underlined in every meeting, in every visit that I have had in the region as part of my trip to the region. Just as we have NATO, we will also build this security to fight disinformation from abroad and foreign forces. The United States is committed to the people of Kosovo as always,” added Allen.

After the visit with President Osmani, the American undersecretary also met with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.
