Kickboxing brings 5 medals to Kosovo

The Kosovo Kickboxing Federation has held a media conference after the successes achieved in the Mediterranean Championship as well as in the World Cup, held in Istanbul, Turkey.

The achievements of the contestants in the Mediterranean Championship as well as in the World Cup held in Istanbul, Turkey, were presented there. The president of this federation, Fatmir Makolli, said that Kosovo returned with five medals from these two competitions, a success that he called extraordinary.

“We participated in the Mediterranean Championship and the World Cup, which was held in Istanbul, Turkey, where more than 52 countries participated in this competition… We participated with 13 competitors, among these competitors was a girl… We won, we returned with five medals from these competitions, where we had three medals in the Mediterranean Championship and two medals in the World Cup. In the Mediterranean Championship, Rron Kasumi won the gold medal, Omar Thaqi took the second place, Gert Hyseni took the third place. We also received two medals in the World Cup, Donjeta Vengjiqi for the senior bronze medal and Fatlind Ejupi in the World Cup who participated in the Kick-Light discipline”, said Makolli.

Meanwhile, the senior kick-boxing coach, Ilir Mengjiqi, emphasized that he was very satisfied with the performances of the contestants and the titles won there.

“As the selector of the national team for the senior age groups, I am satisfied with the performance of the contestants. One of the contestants who maybe was not his destiny, but had a very good performance was Artur Mehmeti. Also, others have had good performances and I believe the success was rewarded in the end. We are now focusing on the next competition we have, the Balkan Championship, the preparations are going well and I hope that we will have success there as well”, stressed Mengjiqi.

Even the coach of the juniors, Nysret Salihaj, was very happy with the four medals won by the competitors of this generation in these two competitions.

“In the juniors, we participated with two contestants in the ring, the other contestants are on the tatami. Four medals were received from the juniors, Rron Kasumi’s gold medal, Amar Thaçi’s silver medal and Fatlind Ejupi’s bronze medal in the Mediterranean Championship, while Gent Hyseni received a medal in the World Cup”, said Salihaj.

The president of this federation, Fatmir Makolli, said at the end that the athletes of this sport need more financial support as well as better infrastructural conditions in order to be more successful in future international competitions.
