Skopje, 20 May 2025 (MIA) — Jadro Cultural Center will host a book launch and a panel discussion for “Contemporary Art in the Post-Yugoslav Space: Case Studies in Hauntology” (Routledge, 2025) at 8 pm.
Edited By Jonathan Blackwood and Jasmina Tumbas, the anthology explores the cultural and material legacy of the Yugoslav socialist era and how it has transformed under late capitalism, organizers said.
“It is particularly significant that the anthology places a considerable focus on Macedonia, through essays by Biljana Tanurovska Kjulavkovski, Slavcho Dimitrov, Bojan Ivanov, Ivana Vaseva and John Blackwood, who analyze the art history and cultural production from the socialist era to the postsocialist present,” they said.
Several of the book’s authors and editors will take part in the discussion. The conversation will focus on what the concepts of hauntology, queerness and non-alignment mean in the context of current debates surrounding the Yugoslav past, contemporary art and memory politics. mr/
