Italy suffered 10% of world’s cyber attacks Jan-June

Italy suffered 10.2% of the world’s cyber attacks in the first half of 2025, up from 9.9% in the equivalent period last year, the Italian Association for Information Security (Clusit) said in a report on Wednesday.

Cyber attacks against Italian targets have increased in a major way in recent years – in 2021 the country was subject to 3.4% of the worldwide total.

The report said cyber attacks on the government-military sphere accounted for 38% of the total for Italy after a 600% year-on-year rise.

Clusit researchers said ‘hacktivism’, politically or socially motivated demonstrative actions, “probably saboteurs coordinated by Russian governmental structures,” account for 54% of the attacks in Italy, overtaking traditional cybercrime aimed at stealing data or money, which stands at 46%.
