Italy leads Europe in NRRP, €153.2 billion received so far says Meloni

Italy leads Europe for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), with €153.2 billion received so far, Premier Giorgia Meloni said after the eighth installment was disbursed by the European Commission and a ninth requested by the Italian government Tuesday.

“With the request for payment of the ninth installment, Italy confirms its position as a European leader in implementing the NRRP, both in terms of the number of objectives achieved and the amount received, which with the eighth installment rises to €153.2 billion, equal to 79% of the total allocation, compared to the European average of 60%.

In 2026, the Government, together with the relevant institutions, will continue to work with determination to complete the objectives of the tenth and final installment, transforming Europe’s most complex plan into concrete results for citizens, businesses, the economy, and the nation’s international credibility,” said Prime Minister Meloni in a statement released by her office at Palazzo Chigi in Rome following the disbursement of the eighth installment of the NRRP.

Chigi noted that Italy has received the payment of the eighth installment of the NRRP, amounting to €12.8 billion, from the European Commission, following the positive assessment of the achievement of 32 objectives, including 16 targets and 16 milestones.

On the same day, it also submitted to the Commission its request for payment of the ninth and penultimate installment, also amounting to €12.8 billion.

This request follows the work of the Steering Committee on December 22, which verified the achievement of 50 objectives, divided into 34 targets and 16 milestones, including reforms and strategic investments to support Italy’s economic and social growth.
