“Imi amintesc cand am vazut” exhibition of photojournalist Lucian Tudose, opened at Romanian Peasant Museum
The photo exhibition “Imi amintesc cand am vazut’/”I remember when I saw”, by Lucian Tudose, former photojournalist of AGERPRES National News Agency, opened on Thursday night at the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant (MNTR) in Bucharest.
An event held under the sign of friendship, as characterized by the Romfilatelia DG, Cristina Popescu, the opening occasioned a meeting of the author with figures of the political, diplomatic, media or university life who evoked the activity of Lucian Tudose.
“Some call him Lucian, we call him Professor Tudose, teacher for us and teacher for many generations of students, hundreds maybe even thousands in twenty or so years. And I think that when you talk about photography, social space and politics, it’s important to have not only a professional photographer, but also a person capable of understanding the significance of the moment, the political significance of the moment, a significance that I think we can separate just by looking at these photos,” said the National School of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA) rector, Remus Pricopie.
In turn, journalist and former politician Octavian Stireanu characterized Lucian Tudose’s decision to select a hundred or so photographs for the exhibition presented at the MNTR from over two million images as “a spiritual and professional adventure alike”, as he claims he had taken. He said that through his “sobriety”, the photojournalist “superlatively honored” his chosen profession.
Former politicians Ioan Mircea Pascu and Florea Voinea, the diplomat Lilian Zamfiroiu, former chairman of the Romanian Cultural Institute, Serban Matei, the director of the International Relations Department of the National Bank of Romania, political scientist Vasile Secares, some of them appearing in old black and white photographs, they were among those who recalled memories with their colleague or friend Lucian Tudose.
The exhibition “Imi amintesc cand am vazut” wishes to recompose and present a selection of photographs taken between 1981 and 2023, in the form of an extensive photographic project, in order to create a bridge between the reporter’s reality, seen through the photographic lens, and the reality of those around, transformed over time and brought into the contemporary.
The 169 images cover key moments from the last four decades: Romania in the period 1981 – 1989, the Revolution of December 1989, Romania’s social-political evolution towards democracy, Romania’s European path – joining NATO and the EU, participation in world forums, visits of Romanian leaders abroad, folk art, culture, sports, various events.
The exhibition can be visited until November 29.
