More than two decades have passed since it was promised that the construction of the Pristina Hospital, which is expected to provide secondary health services, will begin. However, this project, which is estimated to be one of the biggest investments for Kosovar health after the war, has only now received the green light to start work.
The capital’s hospital, which is planned to cost over 50 million euros in investment, is expected to have the Department of Cardiology, Gynecology, Pediatrics, General Surgery, Endocrinology and others.
The Director of Health in the Municipality of Pristina, Izet Sadiku, in an interview for KosovaPress, says that it is expected that the project will be tendered very soon and the construction of the hospital will begin, while indicating that it will enable the provision of many health services for patients and the employment of about 400 health workers.
Sadiku mentions that the completion of the capital’s Hospital may take up to three years due to its specifics of construction.
“It will be one of the biggest investments for the health of Kosovo after the war, somewhere over 50 million (euro) will be the construction of the capital’s Hospital according to the planning that the company has done. But, of course, it will be one of the hospitals that does not even exist in the region, it is a modern hospital… The company that designed it, which is one of the most well-known companies in Europe for designing hospitals, planned that this would be a very modern hospital. The hospital will have all the rooms, some 200 beds, there will not be any room with more than two beds and all the rooms will be equipped, they will have operating rooms, examination rooms… Of course, it will take two to three years (to be completed), because it is a very modern hospital and it will also depend on the company that benefits”, says Sadiku.
Sadiku tells KosovaPress that the 4.5-hectare property where this hospital will be built has been decided to be in New Pristina, near the Palace of Justice.
He says that this year they allocated nearly 3 million euros for the start of the construction of this project, which is expected to cost over 50 million euros.
“After the analysis of this property, the company has decided that the hospital will be built on this property, which is located in New Pristina, at the Palace of Justice, on the road that goes near Hajvali, where around 4.5 hectares of land are allocated for this hospital. Of course, Pristina Hospital is already in the final phase of its detailed plan. We allocated a budget for this hospital last year as well, with the hope that the plan will be carried out, because the promise was that the plan would be carried out last year and then the plan was not made, it was delayed a bit and we allocated again this year. And this year we have a budget of around 2 million and 800 thousand euros, which is a small budget but only to start the project”, says Sadiku.
Among other things, the director of Health, Izet Sadiku mentions that about 40 percent of the services in this hospital will be dedicated to out-of-hospital treatments, specifically specialized outpatient services.
Sadiku, while mentioning that the Hospital of Pristina is expected to consist of the department of Pediatrics, Gynecology, Endocrinology, General Surgery and other departments, mentions that about 400 new jobs will be opened.
“There will be most departments, Pediatrics, Gynecology, General Surgery, then Endocrinology, departments that are secondary services. And of course 40 percent of the hospital will be dedicated to out-of-hospital treatments, specialist ambulances… Somewhere around 400 jobs will be there to begin with and then, depending on it, the hospital will be such that it will be able to expand according to the needs that the capital will have”, says Sadiku for KosovaPress.
