Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorcevic, the launch of the SEPA system in Montenegro marks a key benefit of the accession process and the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, in terms of strengthening economic integration with the European Union (EU) single market.
“This demonstrates that we are turning our European commitments into concrete benefits for our citizens and the economy,” Gorcevic stated on the occasion of the first SEPA transactions.
Gorcevic noted that, even though Montenegro is not yet an EU member state, as of today, the country can use one of the most important financial mechanisms available to EU citizens — faster, simpler, and more affordable money transactions across Europe.
“This will save us millions annually and strengthen the competitiveness of our economy,” Gorcevic explained.
She sees SEPA as clear evidence that the EU accession process is not abstract but brings tangible benefits to citizens.
“This step shows that Montenegro is not waiting for formal EU membership to apply European standards. In this way, our citizens, companies, and banks are already living and doing business according to European rules — the best possible preparation for full membership,” Gorcevic concluded.
