The Transylvanian Princes’ Palace Museum in Alba Iulia has been officially nominated for one of the most important European awards dedicated to history museums, the Luigi Micheletti Award – Outstanding Storytelling (“History-Telling”), granted by the European Museum Academy (EMA).

According to a press release, the evaluation process included an official visit to Alba Iulia by two experts appointed by the EMA, from Greece and Germany, who analyzed the permanent exhibition, the museographic concept, the educational activities and the way in which the Transylvanian Princes’ Palace Museum capitalizes on the heritage through storytelling – the central criterion of the Outstanding Storytelling (“History-Telling”) category.

“This nomination represents a recognition of the work of the entire team and the efforts made to transform the Transylvanian Princes’ Palace into a modern museum, where history is presented in a lively, accessible and captivating way. We are honored that Alba Iulia and Romania are represented in such a prestigious European competition and it motivates us to continue developing museum experiences of the highest quality,” said the manager of the Transylvanian Princes’ Palace Cultural Center, Robert Roman, according to the release.

Through the awards it grants annually, EMA highlights innovative museum projects and examples of good practice in the valorization of cultural heritage.

In 2019, the ASTRA National Museum Complex in Sibiu won the Luigi Micheletti Award, and in 2021, the National Museum of Romanian Literature was awarded the DASA Award, both distinctions being granted under the aegis of EMA.

Opened on February 5, 2024, the Transylvanian Princes’ Palace Museum is housed in the Princes’ Palace, built in the 15th century and where Ruler Michael the Brave also lived.
