The German Embassy in Kosovo, together with German Ambassador Rainer Rudolph and Israeli Ambassador to Kosovo Tamar Ziv, commemorated more than one million victims who were killed in Auschwitz, including Jewish men, women, and children, as well as many other groups persecuted by the Nazi regime.
On the day marking the anniversary of the liberation of the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp, which was freed in 1945 by the Red Army, revealing the unimaginable scale of crimes committed by Nazi Germany, the embassy emphasized the silent testimonies of suffering and Nazi persecution.
The suitcases on display today at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum are silent witnesses to the suffering and persecution, telling the story of thousands of people who passed through the camp gates and never returned, the Embassy’s statement reads.
