General Directorate of the Archives offers new research platform into personal fund of dictator Hoxha

TIRANA, November 2/ATA/ General Directorate of the Archives has launched the newest research platform “Audio and Video Library online”, bringing to the personal computer of researchers audio and film materials on political developments in Albania after 1945.

8,071 cassettes and 318 videotapes, belonging to the personal fund of communist dictator Enver Hoxha and the speeches delivered by representatives of the communist nomenclature in meetings, plenums, meetings of the Central Committee, committees and organizations of the Party of Labor of Albania, are part of the audiovisual archive, which is undergoing the digitization process, to become accessible anywhere and anytime at the address videoteka.arkiva.gov.al.

General Director of the Archives Ardit Bido, Director of the Central State Film Archive Marinela Ndria, historians and researchers were present at the presentation of this platform, who appreciated this innovation as an impetus for undertaking further research.

Bido also said that the use for didactic purposes of these materials will be free, offering the new generation an opportunity to learn about the history of Albania during the communist regime. While Marinela Ndria described the platform as quite useful for the long-term storage of archival material.

With around 19 million digitized documents in the 5-year period 2019-2024, the General Directorate of the Archives represents the most digitized central archive in Europe.
