Gazdic claims that Kotor is to lose its UNESCO status, Ministry and Kotor Mayor deny the claim

Kotor is to lose the status of a natural, cultural and historical area in the UNESCO World Heritage List, while Durmitor will be added to the red list, said director of the Environmental Protection Agency Milan Gazdic.

During the conference on the environmental protection, he said that the next UNESCO summit in Riad would be hard for Montenegro.

“We have learnt that Durmitor will be added on the red list, while there is also a rumor that Kotor is to lose its status of a significant cultural and historical area and that is defeat of our country”, Gazdic said, Antena M reports.

Kotor Mayor Vladimir Jokic reacted to Gazdic’s statement, claiming that Kotor would not lose its status, and that it wasn’t under threat.

The Ministry of Culture also reacted, stating that none of the protected areas was on the red lists, nor they were under threat of being deleted from the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

They said that cooperation with UNESCO was being carried out in line with the procedure and intensive exchange in all segments of this organization’s competence.
