Five doctors have been placed under investigation after a 50-year-old mother and her 15-year-old daughter died of food poisoning after eating bad fish at a Christmas Eve sinner near Campobasso south of Naples, judicial sources told ANSA Monday.

Five doctors at Campobasso’s Cardarelli Hospital are under investigation for the deaths of Sara Di Vita, 15, and her mother, Antonella Di Ielsi, 50, due to food poisoning in Pietracatella, in the province of Campobasso.

The woman’s husband, hospitalized at Rome’s Spallanzani Hospital, remains in serious condition.

The criminal charges advanced by the prosecutor’s office are manslaughter and negligent injury.

The woman and her daughter were reportedly taken to hospital twice and twice discharged before their third and final fatal hospitalisation.
