The Embassy of Greece in Skopje, in cooperation with the ΔΕΦΝΚ International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis, is organizing an event at the state university’s Faculty of Philosophy in honor of the Greek writer and journalist Nikos Kazantzakis.
According to organizers, Faculty of Philosophy dean Ratko Duev, Greek Ambassador Sophia Philippidou, ΔΕΦΝΚ International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis president Giorgos Stasinakis and North Macedonia’s ΔΕΦΝΚ Society head Sherif Luzha will address the event.
The event will include a screening of a documentary film about the Museum of Nikos Kazantzakis with interviews of ΔΕΦΝΚ branch presidents Elena Avramidou and Katerina Zografistou as well as other members.
Then participants will visit the grave of Georgios Zorbas at the Butel cemetery. Zorbas was the inspiration for Kazantzakis’ famous novel “Zorba the Greek, the Life and Times of Alexis Zorbas,” first published in 1946.
The event is part of the Thessaloniki History Center-organized International Conference “Meetings and Texts of Kazantzakis for non-Greek writers and Artists” on Nov. 25-26, marking Kazantzakis’ 140th birth anniversary and the 35th anniversary of the ΔΕΦΝΚ Society.
