The 12th edition of the Eurosfat forum is set to take place between May 15 – 18 in Bucharest, hosting 72 debate sessions with 200 speakers, the Representation of the European Commission in Romania informs.
This year, the event takes on an international dimension through the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy, which comes for the first time to Eastern Europe.
“The Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy is a participatory conference that attracts every year over 500 participants from over 60 countries, being organized by civil society organizations in partnership with local institutions. In Romania, the conference will be hosted by Europuls – the Centre of European Expertise, the Democracy International NGO, the Bucharest City Hall, the University of Bucharest, and the Swiss Democracy Foundation. The event is sponsored by the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council,” the source said.
The central theme of the Global Democracy Forum is the concept of “trust in democracy”. Debates will approach topics such as: Romania’s future in the EU (electoral debate with candidates for the European Parliament); best practice exchanges between mayors; youth participation in the national and European decision-making process, technology and its influence on mass media; trust in political representatives, institutions and mass media; the implications of the war in Ukraine and the conflict’s consequences on Romania, Moldova, and the Black Sea region; the future of security in the Black Sea region, as well as energy perspectives; the future of the cohesion policy and the development of European regions.
Eurosfat is the largest annual European business forum in Romania. In 2022 it was national winner of the Charlemagne Youth Prize, a distinction whereby the European Union rewards every year the best youth initiatives that contribute to bringing the EU closer to its citizens. Each of the previous editions hosted over 600 participants, more than 50 speakers, 30 sponsors and partners, the source mentions.
Europuls – the Centre of European Expertise is a non-governmental organization founded in 2010 in Brussels by a group of Romanian European affairs experts, having as purpose the promotion of the European integration process in Romania, but also contributing to the development of the European public space.
