A spokesperson for the Italian ENI denied in a statement to Cyprus News Agency that the company is considering withdrawing from its activities in Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
Bloomberg, citing an unnamed source, had reported that the Italian company is considering divesting from assets related to gas drilling activities worth a total of $4 billion, with potential targets being activities in Indonesia and Cyprus.
“Eni denies being engaged in any discussion for the sale of shares in its assets held in Cyprus”, a spokesperson told CNA, when asked by email to comment on Bloomberg’s report.
Meanwhile, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, has also denied the relevant reports yesterday. “We have spoken with ENI, there is absolutely no intention in relation to the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus”, he had said.
