BANJA LUKA, December 23 (FENA) – The Ministry of Interior of the entity of Republika Srpska (RS) today launched the Emergency Public Notification System for missing minors, called “Find Me.”
All users of the m:tel mobile operator immediately received an SMS notification about the activation of the system.
On this occasion, a promotion event was held at the Administrative Center of the RS Government in Banja Luka, during which Minister of Interior Siniša Karan signed agreements with the RS Minister of Health and Social Protection Alen Šeranić, Minister of Transport and Communications Nedeljko Čubrilović, RTRS Director Dijana Milanković, and m:tel Director General Jelena Trivan.
The emergency notification system was established eight months after the official initiative by the RS Ministry of Interior, modeled after a similar system in Serbia.
In addition to the RS institutions, the system involves m:tel, the RS Motorways, bus and railway stations, 32 local radio and TV stations, as well as the RTRS.
The system is an electronic platform that issues notifications about a missing child via a one-time SMS message to all m:tel mobile users, along with continuous updates on local RTV stations for up to 48 hours.
The RS Minister of Interior Siniša Karan noted that no child abductions have been recorded in RS since 2009 and expressed hope that this emergency alert system would never be needed.
It was also highlighted during the event that the system’s effectiveness “could be enhanced if an identical system were implemented in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, creating a unified system across the entire territory of BiH.”
