A Dutch national, who was found to be driving under the influence of cocaine, was caught at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint trying to smuggle 6 kg hashish from Turkiye, the Interior Ministry said Thursday.
Two Dutch nationals arrived at the border crossing in a car on August 1. The border police officers conducted a search of their vehicle and found hidden in it 121 compressed packages, wrapped in plastic. Field drug tests of the contents showed that there was hashish in 120 of the packages, weighing 6 kg, while one package was found to contain 530 g of cocaine.
The driver tested positive for cocaine. The two foreigners have been detained and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.
The appellate prosecution office in Plovdiv (South Bulgaria) valued the seized drugs at BGN 130,700. The suspect has been detained for 72 hours. The investigation continues.
