Denis Bowen exhibition opens in Skopje to mark World Art Day

Skopje, 15 April 2024 (MIA) – The Ikon Association of Culture and the Youth Cultural Center MKC to mark World Art Day have organized an exhibition in tribute of the artist Denis Bowen, which will run until April 25 at MKC’s exhibition hall.

Works of Bowen’s series created throughout the years in the country will be displayed.

Celebrated annually on April 15, World Art Day was declared in 2012 by the International Art Association (IAA) in order to promote and raise awareness about creativity around the world. It is celebrated on April 15, the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, who was chosen as a symbol of freedom of expression, tolerance, solidarity and multiculturalism.

MKC and Ikon on World Art Day have decided to pay tribute to Denis Bowen, a British artist and Macedonian cultural ambassador. He had written about the Macedonian art scene in London and had collected works of art by British artists.

Denis Bowen (1921 – 2006) was a South African artist, gallery director and promoter of abstract and avant-garde art in Britain. He was founder of the New Vision Group and the New Vision Centre Gallery, both of which played an important role in the post-World War II British art scene. His works are included in numerous collections in the country and abroad, including Tate Gallery, V&A, the British Museum and the national galleries of Israel, Italy, Poland and North Macedonia.

“Bowen’s contribution to the Macedonian art scene had left a permanent mark enriching the cultural heritage in the country. His works continue to serve as a source of inspiration urging the viewers to appreciate beauty and the complexity of art through his artistic objective,” said a press release.
