Bomb destroys Rai journalist Ranucci’s car

Rai journalist Sigfrido Ranucci’s car and that his his daughter were blown up overnight by a bomb planted in front of his home in the town of Campo Ascolano, near Rome Report, the investigative journalism show Ranucci presents on the State broadcaster, said via X that the bomb was planted under his car and would have killed anyone who was passing by.

It damaged the house of a neighbour.

Report is a hard-hitting show that focuses on alleged crime and corruption and Ranucci already had a security detail due to threats he has received.

Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said the level of protection would be raised to the maximum following the bomb attack.

“I am in the car with a Carabinieri police escort and I am on my way to report what happened,” Ranucci told ANSA.

“She (the daughter) parked her car and passed by there 20 minutes before the incident.

“It appears to have been a rudimentary device, but now we need to see the nature of the explosive.

“With all the threats we receive, it will not be easy to trace where it came from.” Premier Giorgia Meloni expressed “full solidarity with journalist Sigfrido Ranucci and the strongest condemnation of the serious act of intimidation he suffered.

“Freedom and independence of information are essential values ;;of our democracies, which we will continue to defend,” she said in a statement.

Anti-mafia prosecutors in Rome are investigating what happened.
