Tagarev and Zaki highly appreciated the traditionally good relations between Bulgaria and Egypt and stressed that the current meeting is a kind of expression of the two countries’ desire to develop mutually beneficial and fruitful cooperation. In the course of the talks, the two defence ministers discussed topical security issues in the region and the world, and opportunities for deepening cooperation in the military sphere, noting military-technical cooperation and military education and training as the areas with the greatest potential for development.
At an official ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Bulgarian Defence Ministry and the Defence Ministry of Egypt was signed. The two officials stressed that the Memorandum provides the necessary legal and regulatory framework for the further development of the relations and contacts between the two countries, and expressed their expectations that it will give a new impetus to the cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Within the framework of the visit, Tagarev laid wreaths at the Monument to the Unknown Warrior in Cairo.
Three agreements on the development and deepening of the cooperation between Bulgaria and Egypt were signed on Saturday in the New Administrative Capital of Egypt – an agreement on mutual exemption from the requirements for short-stay visas for holders of diplomatic and service passports, an agreement on cooperation in the field of defence and an agreement on cooperation in the field of natural gas.
