Cyprus’ performance at the Paralympic Games absolutely successful, Head of mission tells CNA
The outcome of Cyprus mission’s performance at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024 has been absolutely successful, the Head of the delegation to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Andreas Theofylaktos, stressed, speaking to CNA.
Cyprus secured two medals at the Games, clinched by swimmer Karolina Palendritou.
The top Paralympian won a silver medal in the 50m. freestyle, in category S11 and a bronze in 100m. breakstroke, in category SB11.
Maria Markou, the Cypriot bench weightlifter, who secured the 9th place in the Games, was carrying the Cyprus flag at the closing ceremony of Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, that took place on Sunday. The third Cypriot that participated in the Games, Victoras Pentaras, secured the 7th place in the Long Jump.
Markou wrote on her social media accounts: “9th place at the Paralympic Games in Paris. Every moment was a battle, full of challenges. I am deeply grateful for all of you who stood by me and for the messages of support that gave me so much strength. It wasn’t just a race, it was a journey full of faith, dreams and hope. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being my inspiration.”
Andreas Theophylaktou, in his statements to CNA from Paris, said that the Cypriot mission’s performance of the Cyprus National Paralympic Committee has been absolutely successful and thanked all the members of the delegation, the President the Cypriot Paralympic Committee, as well as the hundreds of the people for the positive messages they sent to them.
Theofylaktou said that Cyprus secured a silver and a bronze medal with Karolina Pelendritou in the 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, a 7th place with Viktoras Pentaras in the long jump and a 9th place in Weightlifting with Maria Markou.
“All our Cypriot athletes competed in the final of their sport. The mission is considered absolutely successful”, he concluded.
