Cyprus officially proclaims 56 new MPs following Sunday’s parliamentary elections

Cyprus officially proclaimed on Monday the 56 new Members of Parliament elected in the May 24 parliamentary elections, formally shaping the composition of the new House of Representatives, which is expected to convene for the first time on June 4.
The proclamation ceremony at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre was attended by party leaders, senior political figures, relatives and supporters of the newly elected MPs, marking the beginning of a new parliamentary term amid significant political shifts, the emergence of new political movements and a changing electoral landscape.
Six parties succeeded in securing seats in the new House of Representatives, namely DISY, AKEL, ELAM, DIKO, ALMA and Direct
Democracy.  The most notable rise was recorded by ELAM, which doubled its seats and increased its vote share by 4%. AKEL maintained the same number of seats and increased its percentage by 1.4%. The Democratic Rally-DISY retained first place and its seats, despite a slight drop of 0.8% in its vote share. The Democratic Party-DIKO recorded a 1.3% decrease in its percentage and lost one seat.
The parties Alma and Direct Democracy also entered the new House, securing 5.8% and 5.4% respectively. Meanwhile, EDEK, DIPA, and the Ecologists’ Movement – Citizens’ Cooperation failed to secure representation and are out of the House.
The abstention rate reached 33.09%. There were 569,182 registered voters, of whom 380,851 cast their ballots.
