Croatia to host Europol conferences on drugs and environmental crime in November

Croatia will host two major Europol conferences in November, one on environmental crime in Opatija and the other on drugs in Dubrovnik, the Interior Ministry announced on Friday.

The conferences were confirmed at the European Police Chiefs Convention (EPCC 2026), held at Europol headquarters in The Hague from 28 to 30 September. More than 500 police chiefs and representatives from 59 countries attended. The Croatian delegation was led by Antonio Gerovac, deputy police director-general and head of the Criminal Police Directorate, along with PNUSKOK chief Marijo Kovac and representatives of the Customs Administration.

Discussions focused on artificial intelligence, lawful access to data, disinformation in campaigns against public disorder, preventing radicalisation and customs cooperation. Bilateral meetings with Europol acting executive director Jurgen Ebner and organised crime department head Andy Kraag covered organised crime trends, Croatia’s role in combating migrant smuggling and the Zebra 2 operational task force led by Croatian police.

The Europol conference on drugs will be held in Dubrovnik on 25 and 26 November, while the conference on environmental crime linked to drug production will take place in Opatija on 11 and 12 November, the ministry said.
