Podgorica, (MINA) – Citizens in Montenegro the highest level of trust in the Radio Television of Montenegro (RTCG), but the majority would not pay a subscription for this public broadcaster, according to a survey carried out by the Center for Civic Education (CGO).
The survey was conducted by the Damar Institute on behalf of the CGO from December 9 to 16, on a sample of 1,010 adult citizens.
Presenting the survey results, Nikola Obradovic, CGO program associate, said that digital media, especially social networks and online portals, are the most followed sources of information among respondents.
“Social networks are followed often or very often by 65.5 percent of respondents, last year that percentage was 68.8 percent. This year, 54.4 percent of respondents followed online portals, while in 2024 that percentage was 53.2 percent”, said Obradovic.
He added that television remains one of the most popular media, followed by 50 percent of respondents, although this represents a decline compared to last year when it was 59.9.
On the other hand, Obradovic added, print media have the lowest level of consumption, with only 13 percent of those who follow them regularly.
According to him, this confirms the dominance of digital media over traditional forms of information.
Obradovic said that trust in the media remains generally low, while the respondents expressed the highest level of trust in the Public Broadcaster, with 2.81.
“About 60 percent of the respondents believe that the media has a certain role as a controller over political and economic power, which was also the case with previous surveys”, said Obradovic.
He said that the respondents perceive the greatest influence on media coming from media owners, political parties and centers of economic power.
Speaking about the part of the survey related to the RTCG, Obradovic stated that less than a quarter of respondents, or 23.4 percent, believe that the Public Broadcaster fully fulfills its service, while 12 percent believe that it does not fulfill it at all.
“On average, the respondents mostly agree with the statement that RTCG is under political influence, with a 3.31 rating, but they also agree that its level of professionalism is high, with a rating 3.21”, said Obradovic.
He said that less than a quarter, or 24.1 percent of respondents, have complete trust in RTCG, while almost 13 percent do not trust it at all.
Obradovic noted that the majority of respondents, 57.6 percent, would not be willing to pay a subscription fee for RTCG, if one were introduced.
