Bulgarians’ Trips Abroad Up in July 2024, Y/Y

In July 2024, the number of trips of Bulgarians abroad was 861,800 or 5% more, year-on-year, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported on Wednesday. The number of visits of non-residents to Bulgaria was 1,898,400 or 3.4% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year.

Most trips of Bulgarian residents were made to:

Turkiye – 241,000
Greece – 218,200
Romania – 64,200
Germany – 55,800
Serbia – 45,500
France – 37,500
Italy – 31,600
Austria – 23,200

The trips with holiday and recreation purposes composed the greatest share of the total number of trips of Bulgarians abroad – 47.4%, followed by trips with other purposes (as a guest, for education, attending cultural and sports events) – 37%, and with professional purpose – 15.6%.

In July 2024, the share of visits of ЕU citizens was 50.3% of the total number of non-residents’ visits to Bulgaria and reached 954,100, the largest being by visitors from Romania – 28.6%, Germany – 17.1%, and Poland – 10%. The visits of non-residents in the group ‘Other European countries’ were 739,800, or 39% of all visits to Bulgaria. The highest number of visits were from Turkiye – 276,400, followed by visits from Ukraine – over 245,600.
